In 2008, the television network, Cartoon Network, was licensed to air the canon cartoon Star Wars:  The Clone Wars. During season three, we were introduced to the character Savage Opress, Maul's brother.  Season four lead Savage to find Maul, who was alive, if not mentally well.  Savage takes him back to their home planet of Dathomir where Mother Talzin, leader of the clan of Nightsisters, restores his sanity and gives him cybernetic legs.  Maul and his brother sow chaos across the galaxy through season five, which is when Darth Sidious ends their reign of terror and dethrones his former apprentice but leaving him alive.

 

The Clone Wars was abruptly ended, but a few unfinished story arcs were finished via novels and comics.   One of these never aired arcs was wrapped up in  a canon comic, Son of Dathomir, which was about Maul and Mother Talzin exacting their revenge against Sidious.
