versa page:  summary "darth maul and his brother savage opress are loose in the galaxy. the jedi council sends a task force of jedi to bring them to justice" (provided by publisher)
page 1:
starts with season 4 on DATHOMIR.  maul with talzin using magic, savage finds maul on lotho minor and has taken him back to mother talzin.
"sith lord darth maul" found by his brother savage opress.  maul spent years consumed by rage, which sustained his body but also his sanity. talzin used her power to heal his 1) ravaged mind and 2) make his ruined body whole.  ... .so maul has the first pair of robotic legs in this book.
"restored to his former power" ... he had one desire "revenge."
people say that maul is insane, but here it's said that talzin healed his mind.
page 2:
tcw ep.... savage and maul fighting kenobi and ventress
"lured into a deadly ambush, obi-wan would surely have been murdered if not for some unlikely help."
ventress, savage's former ally turned bitter enemy joined with K
"..but not even their combined might was enough to defeat the brothers... forcing obw and V to make a narrow escape."
page 4:
CORUSCANT
jedi temple - jedi council discussing with K regarding the trap set by s and m.   about SAVAGE "troubling that joined forces with DOOKU'S FORMER APPRENTICE, maul has."
yoda says k needs assistance - windu says to create a task force to capture THESE SITH immediately.  
plo koon says he'll join k, and "i believe master bruu jun-fan's expertise would be most suitable for this mission."
windu, "master plo, jun-fan is talented..."
page 5:
windu cont, "but young.  does he have the experience necessary." 
pk uses the honorific of "master" for jf, but w says he is young and questions his experience.
w ask yoda for opinion. yoda, "where experience lacks, compensates with skill he does.  unparalleled in the galaxy master jun-fan's force combat abilities are."
yoda also says jf is a master jedi.  yoda says that his force combat abilities/ skill are unparalled in the galaxy.
page 6:
pk says "the sith are on the run with few resources..." and will reveal themselves soon enough.
they have few resources but accomplished much, showing us (in the end) that they are resourceful.
page (going back to book page numbers) 12:
maul tells savage to let him do the talking.  maul has the saavy and realizes savage does not?  or maul is master to apprentice... idk

YELLOWBLADE'S LANDING
talking to nukes, the one who "really" runs this outpost.  
maul, [we are] "war refugees."
nukes  ~"didn't realize tcs reached iridonia"
savage "we are from dathomir."
page 15
nukes recognizes them as nightbrothers and states that he is a member of something (a crime syndicate?) called the scourge.   tells them to join or pay. maul tells them to serve them or die.
the sith beat them up and page 18 - nukes said "we serve you" to which maul says they are worthless them them now.  
pg 19
it seems that six total scourge fought the brothers, and all were killed but one. s asks why that one is spared and maul says "as a warning to others. our presence here must remain secret.  we are not yet strong enough to face the jedi, our best strategy is to what the sith do best -- hide."  or it should have been maul. the artist or word person mixes up the dialogue.  they also split this response between the two of them.
but here we see maul discussing strategy and realizing their weaknesses.
he then says "no witnesses."  supposedly, everyone is killed.
page 20:
the jedi show up at yellowblade's landing saying that informants gave them intel that sith were there.
page 21:
plo koon, captain mojo (not a clone), master jun-fan, tatsu
page 22:
master grohto, master solok
they go into the cantina everyone is dead.  pk says that the scourge are a notorious gang that operates on many mid rim worlds.  the sith are called monsters and jf says "the sith were merciless..."
page 23:
capt mojo "we'll need everything we have against maul and opress."
tatsu  "i still don't understand how that sith lord could even be alive..."
pg 24:
tatsu con't "you cut him in *half*, master kenobi, not to mention he *fell* down a reactor shaft."
k "yes, tatsu.  ONLY ONE CONSUMED BY THE DARK SIDE OF THE FORCE WOULD CLING TO LIFE SO TENACIOUSLY."
p25:
k con't "the sith crave life above all else, padawan. they wish to control it, dominate it, and thus cling to it with every fiber of their being.  i beleive maul's rage was so powerful, AND HIS KNOWLEDGE OF THE DARK SIDE SO GREAT, he simply refused to die, but it is not impossible that 'other forces' contributed to maul's survival."
p27:
k "this is the lesson, tatsu. the power of the force is not as important as the one who wields it and for what purpose."

p28:
maul awakes from a dream screaming "kenobi!"
savage asks "dream terrors again? or just the pain from what you've lost?"  so we know that maul has dream terrors.
maul "the pain only makes me stronger."
sav "you *are* strong."
sav asks about who trained maul.
p29:
m, "... he was a shadow, cloaked in the dark side so thickly he was unknowable. he was the most powerful being i have ever encountered.  it was his training that kept me alive."
s, "t said this "shadow" came to dathomir to purchase you.  i wonder..."
m "if he's the same one who trained you?"
s, "i don't *need* training."
p30:
m "well, brother, whoever trained you didn't seem concerned about your lack of discipline. i believe they wanted a monster they could turn loose. a crude, *expendable* assassin."
here's evidence on the side that savage was no apprentice, but in tcw, dooku does say s needs discipline (or similar- icr).
m says it's time to put his master's training to use in the clone war.  s questions it and m replies "in a time of galactic war, history has shown us there is an opportunity for smaller factoins to accumulate great power and wealth without being noticed."
p31:
s "i'm not interested in profit. i want revenge."
m "brother, there will be more than enough time to exact our vengeance -- once we have the means to properly execute it."

shows m has a plan.  use of strategy.
p33:
m & s go to cells and meet captive girl whose family runs the kozinarg trade guilds, the wealthiest in the mid rim.
p34:
her brother didn't pay her ransom to the scourge,  so they kept her in a cell.  m cuts off arm of a wompa and then breaks her out of cell.  she thanks them and calls them friends.  
s "she could be lying! this is a waste of our time"
m "she could be of use."
s "she could not help herself!"
p35:
s"and you put our lives in danger for this useless witch!"
m "that's the difference between us. i see an opportunity and i exploit it.  you destroy every opportunity put in front of you.  there's more to the sith than destruction."
s "maybe there shouldn't be."

alarm sounds and maul sees kenobi with others.  i count 7 and possibly the head of an 8th.
p36:
s wants to kill them all. 
m"patience, brother.  the jedi have the advantage in this fight.  but there are alternatives."
maul recognizes the pros and cons, uses intelligent to ascertain and judge a situation and how to use it to his best advantage.
p37:
one jedi (not able to tell who) says "the dark side is strong here"
plo koon and five others enter the room and order maul and his apprentice to release the girl and surrender - they are outnumbered.
m "we do not fear you, jedi."
p38:
maul releases the wompas (at least 4) and escapes with s and girl.
p39:
we now see jf and his apprentice tatsu along with k.  all are fighting the wompa.
p40:
m kicks jedi master that is three eyed cow thing (gran?) and savage force throws the bird beak jedi master, grohto.  tatsu rushes forward after k tells him to wait. t  yells, "let the woman go, cowards!"
p41:
 s says he's no coward and cuts of tatsu's held holding his green lightsaber, right hand.
m "leave him. get the ship ready."
s runs to ship.  k approaches m "let her go and face me, i'm the one you...
p42:
m force chokes k.  the others finish fighting the wompa.  plo koon notices the ship.
p43:
m "slowly, i will cursh the life from you, kenobi.."
bird beak jedi master Grohto  "i'll stop you, fiend!"
m "no" and grabs the girl.
p44:
m cont "you won't"
bird beak's light saber is close to girl's face.
m kills him with his lightsaber in his chest/ torso.
p45:
k is on the ground with his hands around his neck - recovering from the force choke. pk demads m drop his weapon.  he takes the girl, threatening her life, and flees.
p46:
s "why did you not let me slay the younglings?"
m "compassion is a jedi's weakness, one of many we will exploit."
not sure of the logic here...
p47:
jf uses psychometry to learn that the girl is from Pleem's Nexus.
pk "the force is ever seeking to find balance, jf. perhaps the mystery is how it reaches that balance." (added for knowledge of the force.)
p48:
k is injured and cannot continue with the task force. he tells pk they are going to need reinforcements.
p49:
anakin skywalker is talking to chancellor palpatine and tells him he has been called away to "help a jedi task force catch a *sith lord*.  p replies that dooku must be brought to justic. skywalker replies that it's darth maul.
p50:
p obviously unaware of m. looks shaken.  he says he thought m was killed on naboo by MASTER k. skywalker  "...no doubt he's returned. he's already killed one jedi and wounded three others, including obi-wan."
p says they are in all out war and can't "see how jedi justify using so many resources to hunt down one rogue assassin."
p51:
sky "the sith should not be underestimated, chancellor."
p52:
sky " master yoda says ...somehow darth mual found a way to use the force to sustain himself."
p55:
p asks what does darth maul want.
sky "...so far he's only targeted innocents in an attempt to draw out obw in his quest for revenge. but i think that's only the beginning. as soon as he's able, he'll see out what *all* sith seek..."
p56:
sky cont "fame, fortune, and power. everything and anything he can get his hands on."
s and m arrive on pleems nexus and expect reward.
p60:
sister tells brother to pay the sith or they will kill her. bro says to go ahead and kill her. walks off.
p62:
m and s kill brother and others and m tells the  girl "the power in this house is yours now, little one."  (previos page he called her pathetic)
girl "then you shall have your reward."
p63:
IMPORTANT PAGE shows m's long term strategy.
they are in room full of gold. 
s "i've never dreamed of so much wealth."
m "this is only the beginning, brother. with wealth comes power. with power comes domination.  and with domination, the foundation of an empire."
p64:
they walk out to see the jedi task force. we see three troopers, pk, jf, and the gran master.
pk "and every empire has been lost to arrogance."
jf "and other empires only ever exist in the minds of the delusional."
portends of the republic empire?
m "so say the fools."
p65:
m takes on jf and gran.  savage fights pk and three troopers that i can see.
p66:
s force pushes three troopers over the edge.
p67:
s and pk cont fight.
jf tells m to reveal his master's identity and the jedi will bring him to justice. (how do they know that his master abandoned him?)
m "i don't need jedi to take my revenge."
jf "but you will need better aim."
jf is highly skilled and is able to move fast enough to get out of m's way (lightsaber.)  remember in resurrection and in books  that maul is so fast that vader can't keep up with him.  electronic surveillence doesn't catch him (book), etc.
p68:
but when jf thought m needed better aim, he was wrong.  maul didn't aim his saber at jf. he threw it at and hit the gran master jedi in the chest..
s kicks pk in the face. (very fast)
jf says m leaves him no choice and hits him in the face.
p69:
while fighting pk, s spins his blade to hit a blaster beam back onto the soldier that shot at him. pk says 'look out!" but the soldier is hit between the eyes.  s rips pk's mask off his face.
jf scratches m in the chest with his right hand while holding m's rt fist in his left hand.  maul says "that you would choose mercy makes you weak."
p70:
jf is choking m and says "your evil is at an end, sith."
m "*gasp* the only end is yours, jedi."
and maul uses his robotic foot to grab jf in the torso.
p71:
jf isn't ripped or torn, but you can see a foot impression on his chect, so m probably kicked him, and the kick killed jf.
yoda earlier said that jf was unparalled in the galaxy for force combat skills.
s is standing over pk, who is kneeling and without his mask.
s "no, brother, this one is mine. i want him to suffer."
blaster bolts zip by.
p72:
more jedi approach in craft, shooting at them from the ships.
s "more jedi!"
m "it's kenobi!"
s "brother, we are injured and outnumbered! you taught me... patience."
p73
we find out that K and sky are the two jedi in the ships. they land and pk is still leaning over on the ground . he weaky tries to tell them that the sith are in the ship that is escaping.
p75:
jf dies in pk's arms.
p76 and last page:
m "harness your rage, brother.  let it restore your body.  (use of rage to restore/ heal the body?)
focus your thoughts. with patience we will achieve our goal. revenge."
goal = revenge
